25 years! I think when every Ex-Kelso Laddie gets to this landmark he just can’t quite believe how fast the time has gone, and it is true! It has quite simply gone way too fast but it has left me with some fantastic memories. After being declared on the 17th April 1998, I then went on to the Declaration Nights of the other Border towns where I now know I was going to meet friends that would be friends for a lifetime and enjoy many fun times with them together throughout the year.
Such as being in the Hut at Hawick singing my heart out, riding up to the Three Brethren at Selkirk, being in Melrose in that fantastic Abbey where so much Scottish history has taken place, riding up Scott Street
in Gala in the pouring rain but still seeing so many people out cheering, Stob Stanes ride out up at Yetholm, I enjoyed very much being given the opportunity to ride out into the magnificent Cheviot hills, being at Jethart Ball to all hours of the morning just before Kelso Civic Week started, riding to the water stone at Lauder before finishing what can only be described as a fantastic year by riding up Flodden field during the Coldstream Week.
Finally to Andrew our Kelso Laddie for 2023, stay relaxed enjoy
1998 Kelso Laddie - Craig Scott
As I look forward to my Golden Jubilee it does not seem like 50 years ago
since I was elected Kelso Laddie for 1973.
I must admit I did not have much to do with Civic Week until Jimmy Hinnigan
was elected Kelso Laddie in 1971. Jimmy and I worked together for M & J
Ballantyne and that’s when I started horse riding. I followed him on my first
ride to Yetholm and I really enjoyed the experience and then followed Derek
Hall the next year.
Congratulations to this years Kelso Laddie Andrew Thomson and Silver Jubilee
Laddie Craig Scott. Hope you all have a great summer!
